FEATHERSTONE Rovers have signed former Super League prop Scott Wheeldon for next season, as he signs on a two year deal at the LD Nutrition Stadium.

Wheeldon moves to Rovers after having a two year stint at Sheffield Eagles, he goes to Featherstone having playing in Super League for Hull FC, Hull KR and Castleford Tigers. He has also racked up 300 appearances for fellow Championship side London Broncos.

Wheeldon said on arriving at the club: “I am really looking forward to joining Featherstone, it is a club with a great history and they always progress well. If you look through the squad already in place, there is plenty of talent and, hopefully, next season will be another successful one.

“The challenge we face here next season is massive, though a top-four finish is the minimum requirement, it is a must. No disrespect to the teams that were relegated but you probably have better ones coming up in Toronto and Barrow, which isn’t always the case.

“It is going to be one hell of a competition, next year, and we are going to have to be at our best from the first round. The recruitment at Featherstone has been strong, adding to an already brilliant squad which did pretty well in the Qualifiers with some quality players. There is no reason why it cannot be achieved again, if not bettered next season.

“John Duffy will want to put his mark on the squad and set a few things straight, so it will be interesting to see what he brings to the table. He seems a great bloke and I am sure he will do a fantastic job here, he is extremely knowledgeable and he knows what he wants from the team.”

Featherstone boss John Duffy said on securing the 31 year old: “Scott represents another fantastic addition to our squad for 2018. He has been a stand-out performer in the Championship for the past two years and he is a tough, no-nonsense kind of player who will do well here. I am looking forward to seeing him rip into pre-season training and make his debut for the club, next year.”
