NEWCASTLE Thunder have secured the signature of Rhys Clarke for another two years, as the long-time servant and local lad puts pen to paper until 2020.
The 26 year old has made 109 appearances for the club over two stints, and has played 175 games across his whole career.
The co-captain of the Thunder said on his new contract: “I’m really happy to re-sign for another two years. The club is progressing well and there is a really exciting squad being put together next year with some real quality guys coming in along with those who are already here.
“We’re looking to go better than last season and the semi-finals and it is going to be interesting to see what Payney and Heapy can do with a full pre-season.
“They had us getting towards their style of play by the end of this year and that can be stamped on from the start in 2018.”
Head coach Jason Payne commented: “Rhys has been a great servant to the club and I am delighted he has agreed a new two year deal. I believe over the next couple of years Rhys will be hitting his prime and that is a really exciting prospect.
“He has developed into a real leader within our team in the past few seasons and I am sure this will continue to be the case. He is a local lad and playing for the club means everything to him and whenever we have people like that in the squad, we will be happy.”
