HUNSLET have signed 31 year old Danny Grimshaw from Oldham, and arrives at the club for his third spell.
Grimshaw first moved to the club in 2010 and made 51 appearances, scoring 24 tries in his first spell with the club. He then returned the Cougars in 2012, moving from Featherstone Rovers, and in his second spell he scored 14 tries in 42 appearances. He then left Keighley once again in 2015 and moved to Olhdam.
However with the centre now back at the club, the Cougars head coach Gary Thornton said: “I’m delighted Danny is returning to the club for 2018. He is a proven, quality player who can cover a number of positions and provide some utility value.
“He’s a big powerful athlete, with great footwork, and will give us some attacking prowess wherever we use him.
“Initially I’ll be looking to use him as a strike player on the edge, but he could easily move into the middle unit if we needed him to, and be equally effective. He can also put a shot on defensively, so will be a great addition to our squad.
“He has gained some valuable experience playing at Championship level with Oldham, and he will be a major asset to us. He is really looking forward to returning to Hunslet, and being a big part of our ambitious plans for next season, and is the type of quality we need to get us where we need to be.”
On returning to the club again, Grimshaw commented: “I’m really looking forward to returning to Hunslet. It’s always been where my heart is and when Gary and Daz gave me the opportunity to return I jumped at it.
“I already know how great this club and the fans are and I can’t wait to be a part of what should be a very competitive squad that Gary has put together.
“It’s going to be a really exciting season and I honestly think we’re going to be up there battling for promotion.”
In other news the club have also re-signed brothers, Shaun and Dean Roberts for another season at the club.
Shaun Roberts who is a 24 year old half back, he signed for the club halfway through last season, and made his debut against Toronto in Canada. Meanwhile Dean Roberts who is three years younger and is a centre/back-row forward, joined half way through 2017 having been on trial at York City Knights.
Thornton was delighted to have re-signed the brothers: “Shaun and Dean came late in the season last year, and showed some real potential during their short time here. I’m really pleased to have them on board for next season, and I’m sure they will benefit enormously from a full preseason with the squad.
“They are both very popular members of the squad and hopefully they can kick on in 2018 and prove their value to the group.”
